Swap bars and/or similar features
If I'm working on a piece I might want to try out ideas on a bar or short section.
I can do this by inserting a few bars, copying some of the bars I might want to change, then make the changes, and see if I like them. Of course this messes up the total length of a piece. This may not matter sometimes, but other times it does.
Essentially I'm using parts of the piece I'm working on as a sort of work space - to be swapped in or out of what might eventually become the finished version.
Does MuseScore have anything which would really help with this process? I'm thinking of something like a set of temporary work spaces, which could be swapped in or out at various points of the score? Maybe this is too complicated, but it's quite complicated trying to keep track of changes in some more intricate workings anyway.
Maybe this could be done between several pieces - using other blank (initially) Musescore files as the temporary work spaces?

In such a workflow I indeed often have a second score open (most times even the same score) in side-by-side view.
I have a section break added to the end of the score and then a couple of measures to use as scratchpad. Or if I have a motif going, I'd paste it there, then add frames/another section break for the scratchpad area again.

That sounds similar - though obviously it depends how big the score is, and what you want to do. Is there a shortcut which will swap a section from one score to the other - either swapping them over, or some other way of keeping the inserted bars? Clearly this can be done with a few operations, but a swap would be great.
If it can be done within one score, can it also work across two or more?

Side by side view gives you two complete viewports of all open documents, so it can certainly be done across different scores as well.
There is https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/copy-and-paste#swap-notes which might be of help, though it doesn't insert/remove measures and only swaps contents of existing measures.

Indeed, but now I'm looking for something which works with just one keypress. Perhaps Stream Deck (which I've not managed to get working) or Touch Portal (where I've had slightly more success) could do this. Otherwise use a button on a pen tablet.
The procedure mentioned seems to require at least 4 keypresses.
