modified time signature wrong from import. shows up with + above measure how do i return it to original?

Inported pdf files to edit yet a few measures inexplicibly modified the time signature by putting a + above the measure. I have tried erasing the notes, the measure also deleting them, cutting them all to no avail. the +sign is in grey and won't allow selection yet obviously it means plus time as instead of 2/4 I now have 3/4 time. Even when i add the time signature into the measure as 2/4 after having supposedly erasing the whole measure and inserting a new one, it pops up again with a + above the measure and converts to 3/4 time.
