change default position of fingering in tab?

Is there a way to change the default position of fingering in tab? I noticed there was a fingering plug-in for piano, but I didn't see one for guitar or lute. The fingering always seems to be placed right on a line. I prefer it in the spaces.

1 is the default. 2 is where I like it.
