pdf import doesn't work any more
I have imported pdfs several times and never had problems. But since yesterday the pdf import doesn't work anymore, even though I tried to import scores from the same collection I usually imported from. Also the settings when scanning the original notations were the same as usual and as recommended.
I am uploading a sample file whose import did not work.
The result of the upload is always"unsuccessful". What could be the cause? I would be glad if you could give me a hint. Thanks in advance!

The PDF import is done via https://musescore.com/import, using Audiveris for the conversion.
I use a locally installed Audiveris for my conversions and have the latest version from
https://github.com/Audiveris/audiveris/releases.
But your file gives only a poor result and many corrections are needed. It seems to be a problem with the quality of your file.

Thanks for the quick reply and the sample conversion. You are right, there are often many corrections needed, but that is still better than typing everything myself. And it does vary - some notes convert almost perfectly, some unfortunately very poorly. I was just irritated that no conversion was possible at all, not even a bad one. I tried it again with a new scan and suddenly it worked again. Thanks again for your help!

Just for the fun of it, I also tried the pdf import. It also failed. So I opened the pdf in Acrobat. Then I printed it in black and white as a new pdf. This MuseScore was able to import. No chord names or cue notes. Most of the notes were correct, but not all the note values. No repeat.
I can't get the download version of Audiveris to work because I don't have Java.
I also opened the original in PhotoScore first shot. All notes and values correct. Still no chord names or repeat.

Yes, sometimes it might be better not to scan in grayscale, but black and white. And thanks also for the tip with PhotoScore. I hadn't heard of it yet, but it seems to give good results. But my brief research showed that you then only get file formats that can be edited with Sibelius - is that correct?

I found it interesting that the two versions look exactly the same to me.
I'm not trying to push PhotoScore It's not free. I have it because it came with Sibelius. My copy will save xml files which MuseScore can open.

I had the same experience with a high quality scan made with Photoshop. I converted the PDF with Preview -> print to PDF (I'm on Mac). That one worked fine!
Same here, pdf import last worked months ago, consistently, but no longer. I tried bobjp's tip to open the pdf in Acrobat then print it in black and white as a new pdf. I used printer/advanced to write to file, and added .pdf to filename so that result file is pdf otherwise musescore won't read it. acrobat usually can't read the resulting file. Once the conversion claimed to work but content was empty. I downloaded audiveris version 5.1rc02 for Windows but it failed to start. Any other workarounds to try?

Since the score is relatively simple, and given the time you seemingly already invested in trying out different conversion options, it seems that manual note entry is likely an equally fast candidate in this instance.

Not sure what the problem is with TALT. Nothing seems to make it want to import. However PDF import still works. I created a PDF in MuseScore a year ago. Just now I used PDF Import and it worked just fine. I don't know where you got your PDF. It looks nice and clean PDF. But the staff lines look a little thin. May or may not have anything to do with it. I printed your PDF and scanned it at 600 dpi and no luck.

The pdf was created by my friend playing a piano controller with MIDI into Apple computer running Logic Pro. He types on piano KB to send MIDI then edits, which did work 9 months ago but not for this particlar song. In latest attempt, he had Logic Pro transpose key to E,then sent output pdf to me, which musescore nterpreted as a successful conversion to an empty staff.

Page one. No lyrics, but at least notes.

Thanks, I can verify your output. My conversion of same still gives status unsuccessful. Did you make your mscz output using musescore import?

Using PDFtoMusic Pro, in evaluation mode (free to download), only one page can be exported at a time.
Here's the xml I got for each page. The xml's can be opened in MuseScore and made whole by copy/paste all into one of the pages.

Thanks, I repeated your test of PDFtoMusic Pro and verified it was able to read my pdf files and output xml playable in Musescore. I'll remember this if musescore fails to convert future files.
