No, there is no way to save this file: it consists of 72k zero bytes!

Is there a reason this happened? The file was doing just fine then it suddenly stopped working in between sessions. Does it alter itself while you are not using it? Both the hidden back up and the manual back up both did the exact same?

If the developers knew the reason for this, they would fix it!
It is a problem mainly with Musescore version 4.x. You can try to avoid it by saving frequently and under different names.
It doesn't change if you don't use it, it has to be an action of yours - but which one?

"It is a problem mainly with Musescore version 4.x"
Really? I started with version 1.3, and I've always seen this kind of problem in versions 2, 3, and 4, at more or less the same frequency, from memory. An attempt to remedy this has been made recently:https://musescore.org/en/node/372934
Apparently the initial results (or rather the lack of feedback) don't seem to be living up to expectations.

I never had such errors with Musescore - files with several tens of kB zero bytes. But with Musescore 4, the reports in the forum became more frequent ...

I never had them either, but the reports about them definitley didn't start with Mu4, they are much older

Not sure they have even been seen with 1.x but surely with 2.x. See #271185: Scores corrupted beyond repair, containing nothing but zeros, which indicates that the first report was for 2.1.1 (https://musescore.org/en/node/271185#comment-953896 and https://musescore.org/en/node/271294)
