After reporting this above, I removed the musescore application from my Applications folder, then downloaded and installed version 3.6.1. On starting up, it also crashed immediately, indicating that there is possibly a condition in my MacBook Pro that is the cause of this.
Previous to this (ie. yesterday, July 26, 2022), I ran MuseScore (3.6.1) successfully
Thank you for your quick response. One thing I did recently was to install a Yamaha driver. This may or may not be the cause of the problem.
I get the following output from your suggested command - obtained with no cable connected to my Yamaha key board.
The Yamaha driver was downloaded from: https://usa.yamaha.com/support/updates/yamaha_steinberg_usb_driver_v205…
- Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver V2.0.5 for Mac macOS 10.15-10.13 (I have macosx 10.14)
- After installing the driver, I successfully tested it in Audacity, where I was able to record a sequence of notes played on the keyboard
Run in /Applications/Utilities:

Well, it's good luck in that it means we can stop looking at driver issues. I'd recommend asking for help on the Support forum - this is really more about figuring out the details of your specific macOS config and what is triggering the problem, so it really needs other macOS experts to be weigh in. Way more people will see and be able to help on the forums than here. Then once it is determined which specific OS setting or which specific other application on your system is causing the conflict, you can come back here and add that info to update this issue.
Thank you for your response. As suggested in the forum/bug reports page, I installed the nightly version as of 7/29/2022, and it started up without a problem. I have not yet reinstalled the Yamaha driver, will do shortly.
How do you suggest I consider the nightly version that I just installed? ie. use it until version 3.6.2 is updated? Do you think the community is interested in my problem if the latest nightly build does not have a problem? How often is version 3.6.2 updated?
A nightly build of MuseScore 4? No, that's not even remotely close to being ready to use for real. For testing purposes only.
3.6.2 probably won't be updated, but since the problem is almost certainly caused by some very specific setting or application on your system, that's what I expect the community to be able to help with. That is, they may well be able to help you discover which OS setting or application is causing the conflict with MuseScore, so you can change that on your system (eg, like I said, the "hover text" setting is known to crash MuseScore and many other programs) to workaround the problem.

Try reverting MuseScore to factory settings, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/revert-factory-settings#instruction…
If that doesn't help, try -w instead of -F
If that helps, disable the start center in preferences, dialog, if it doesn't, see #317323: macOS 10.5 accessibility setting “Enable Hover Text” causes crash

Try without that Yamaha driver

I uninstalled the driver and restarted.
I still get what seems to be the same error:

How about "-s"? That disables audio and will help determine if the issue is connected to that or not.
Also, to be safe, disable the hover text accessibility option in your OS, if set.
