Saxophone Quartet Alto Sax and Bari Sax issues

• Dec 28, 2022 - 18:26

Hello, I am writing my first saxophone quartet on Muse Score and need some help. So, I am writing off of piano music, and I have been transposing everything correctly in my head. An Alto/Bari Saxophone is a minor 3rd down and Soprano/Tenor is 1 step up (a second interval). However, the Alto saxophone appears to be in the same concert pitch as soprano (the C natural is in unison when it should be a 5th). When I transpose on muse score itself, the notes sound right while writing, but then they are wrong on a real saxophone. Anybody know how to fix that?

Also, the Bari saxophone keeps starting in bass clef, and when i change it to treble, it is like 3 octaves too high. Anyone know how to fix that?

Thanks

  1. Make sure you have selected the correct instruments for your score. Musescore handles the necessary transpositions if it is told which instrument you are writing for.
  2. If you want to enter music at written pitch ensure that the concert pitch button is not selected.

If neither of those tips help, please come back and attach the score (.mscz file) you are having difficulty with.

Just my choice : you have a stave of piano with severals voices on the same stave, you have enter, under, for example a stave for alto sax . You choose a C note on the piano , you want it for Sax alto, you transpose in your head, you get an A, you write it for the alto sax......it works but it's complicate !! For me, under the piano , enter a ......guitar stave (UT instrument) you need the C note of piano, enter the C note in the guitar....idem for all the stave.
Then , under guitar, enter a new stave, an alto Sax, and, simply, copy and past the guitar stave into the Alto Sax stave, Musescore does all is necessary, simply !!
