Chord problems

I am trying to write some simple carols for the piano, but I come across a problem every time. I'm in 3/4 time and what I want to do in one of the bars is to have a dotted minim played by one finger in the left hand and to have three crotchets played by other fingers of the left hand. I just can't work out how to do this. can anyone help?
