How to transpose from Clarinet in the key of A to B flat?
Hello.
I am trying to transpose the "Brahms Clarinet Quintet Op. 115" which is for clarinet in the key of a, to clarinet in the key of b flat. I sort of know how to do the notes themselves (lower them a half step lower than the original), but the key signature confuses me. The sections key signatures switch between one flat, or two sharps. How would I change these key signatures to be in the key of b flat?

Start by setting up a score with clarinet in A as the instrument. Ensure that you are not displaying at concert pitch. Then enter the notes as written with the key signatures as written - i.e. duplicate what you see in the original.
Then right click on an empty point in the score and in staff properties change the instrument to clarinet in Bb. Musescore will handle the changed transposition automatically.
I can't remember the pitch range of the Brahms Quintet off hand, but be aware that if the original for A clarinet goes down to bottom E the transposed note Eb is not available on a standard Bb clarinet.
