Critical Issues with Time Signature Changes
A piece I am writing has a large number of time signature changes. There are two major issues I am coming across when trying to notate this piece.
-
When I try to add a new time signature somewhere in the middle of the piece (because I skip around when adding more content to each movement), the software immediately crashes. Somehow, a measure became "corrupted" (It reminds me of this every time I open up the file), and I believe this may have something to do with the problem. I have tried getting around this by adding a particular number of measures, highlighting them, and adding the time signature. For example, when trying to change from 2/4 to 5/8, I add 5 measures before the next time signature change, highlight them, and then change it to 5/8 so that an even number of measures consummate. This is not only cumbersome, but leads to a second issue:
-
More and more measures are corrupting each time I reopen the file after it crashes. This is displayed in the screenshot below. The music in the screenshot has been in the file for a very long time, many months. But all of a sudden this happens. It is supposed to be perpetual eighth notes.
I am using Musescore 4.0.1 and run on Windows 11

Yes, your score is corrupt, and that definitely leads to problems including crashes. Your first priority needs to be fixing the corruption. It's a little complicated at the moment becuase 4.0.1 doens't current report 8where* the corrupt is, but 4.02 will, it seems. meanwhile you can export to MusicXML and use MuseScore 3 to tell you more info.
