MS4 - Multiple (different) notes in one bar?
I am unable to put multiple notes in one bar or one upon the other, when the duration is different. MS will always change the existing note. See pic for better uderstanding.
I want a whole note to be held and a quarter note to be added while the whole note still sounds (the red encircled part). The only way to make it possible is to tie 4 quarters and then add the other. It looks (and feels) horrible and I don't even dare to do this with eights or higher or chords...
Same with other constellations, like whole note and quarter start together, while the quarter dies the whole keeps on going and so on...
Am I missing something? That kind of notation is not that unusual...
(in the image the lower depiction is photoshoped, to demonstrate how it should look)

Same as in previous version(s) - look up "Voices" in the Handbook:

I didnt come that far in the previous versions.
But I tried that already and it still would change the note that has been put in voice one, after switching to voice 2.

Allright, it only works when I start with using voice 2 and then switch to 1 and add notes. Other way around it keeps changing the notes. Guess that is not intended.

Try the version 4 handbook https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/working-multiple-voices
The method is the same as version 3. The description is a bit more detailed.

For MS 3.6.2. step by step, using the keyboard, it works like this:
press 'N' for note input
press 5 (quarter notes), press four times 'F' and finally 'shift-A'
go back to the beginning of the measure (e.g. using left arrow key)
select voice two, cursor is getting green
press '7' for a whole note
press 'F' for the whole 'F' note

Thanks, I fully understand how it should work. The problem is, it doesn't, when I start with voice 1.
When I set my notes in voice 1, then switch to voice 2 and try to set the notes for voice 2 it overwrites / combines the just-set notes with those from voice 1.
If I start with voice 2, set my notes there and switch then to voice 1, I can easily set the notes for voice 1 and it doesnt interfere.
So, there seems to be a little buggy with the voice-thingy. But since it works when I start with voice 2, that'll do. Just needed to find out.

Ok.
Yes, MS 4 seems to be still buggy in several places.
For now, use version 3.6.2 for serious production.

Thanks for the hint, but luckily my production is far from serious ;)

It all just works for me if I follow the steps in the handbook. I have not seen a bug report of problems entering a second voice either here or on Git Hub. So either there is something odd with your particular score or installation or you are doing something wrong.
Can you upload a screen capture video so we can see what is going on.
Also, please confirm that you are using Musescore version 4.0.1 and say what operating system you are using.

My MS version is 4.0.1 and my OS is Win10 with most recent updates, so on this side everything is up to date.
I cant upload vid on here but see the yt link:

It is an example - when working on more complicated sheet parts the "auto-change of notes" is really annoying.

Your wrong action is that you have still selected this whole note! When you press voice 2 then this note changes into voice 2!
First go back to the beat 1 position using the arrow key. Or press twice 'N' to leave and enter note input mode again.

I suspected that might be the problem. In short, when you are in note input mode the voice buttons determine which voice the next note you enter will belong to. Out of note entry mode the buttons set the voice of the selected note(s), changing the voice if necessary.

Allright, that explains the confusing behavior. It works well then.
This is not very clear from the handbook though, easy to overlook the difference of behavior when in note-input-mode and not.
Thanks a lot.

Well, it says "note:..." I could've seen it, but it kinda gets lost in all the information. But yes, it clearly states the difference, my fault then.

From the version 4 handbook which I referenced above:
"Note: be sure to enter note input mode before selecting the desired voice. Pressing one of the voice buttons while in normal mode will change the voice of any currently-selected elements. This can be a useful editing technique, however. For more information, see the section on Changing voice in normal mode."

Watching his video again, I assume he had exited note entry mode and then selected voice 2. That was the mistake, you have to stay in input mode or re-enable it bevor selecting voice 2.

Thank you too, problem solved.
