Playback in MuseScore 3

I've just opened MS3 and then a file I'm working on. All the playback icons are greyed out. What do I have to do to enable playback?
It used to work. Could the fact that I've just installed MuseScore4 be the problem? MS4 doesn't start which is why I'm back on MS3.
