Fermatas over-run in middle of bar
I have a score of 'Cast they burden upon the Lord' (Mendelssohn) which has several fermata in the middle of bars (e.g. bars 11 and 13, for those who know the piece). On playback, the fermata notes overrun the following notes - i.e. they overrun the final note of the bar, and then some. Fermata at the end of a bar works fine. I've checked that the fermata in every staff has the same time stretch. The MuseScore file is attached.
Any thoughts?

It's not that the fermatas are overrunning the following notes, as much as it is that MuseScore is doing just what you told it to. But only as far as the fermata goes. The note is being held 6 beats. The problem is that the following notes come in too soon. And I think that is do to the piano part not having a fermata. You could rewrite the piano part. Or, in the case of measure 11, change all the fermata hold times to 140% and add a comma breath mark set at half a second. And make the breath mark invisible. Or at least some variation of these settings.

Thanks, bobjp. The printed score has fermatas in the piano parts but, of course, the affected notes have a different value from the voice parts. When I put the fermatas as marked in the score, it still doesn't sync. I'll try your suggestion of using breath marks, because I want a breath after such a long held note anyway (!)

You may need to experiment with values of the fermatas and breaths to get the effect you want. A short gape is often, but not always, normal after a fermata. Sibelius automatically asks how long of a gape you want, if any, after a hold.
