Terminology question
What is the term for smaller notes that are not played, but used to show where another instrument is playing, as in the example for the Viola here where the Violins I are playing the first two measures and the Viola comes in on measure 2. And how are those notes entered, or existing notes changed to that appearance in Musescore?

The term is "cue" or "cue notes".
I usually add them in an unused voice (see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/working-multiple-voices) and then tick the "cue size" option in the notes' (and rests' if present) properties panel. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/properties-panel#Cue_size

Thanks, just what I needed. Handbooks are nice, but of little value when you don't know the name to search for.
