Importing Midi file causes chords to split up

• Nov 8, 2023 - 09:28

Hello everyone,

I'm new to Musescore, trying to create sheet music from midi files. When I'm dragging a midi file (for synth/piano) onto the staffs, it's importing fine. However, it splits up chords as shown in the photo below. In the photo both staffs have a treble clef. I basically need two separate staffs for chords and melody.

Is there any way to prevent it from doing so or to easily combine the three notes again? As it happens with all the files so far I'm looking for a convenient fix...

It'd be so great if someone could help me with this. I tried searching for the problem, but I couldn't find anything specific for that issue.

Greetings and thank you very much in advance!

I don't know how to prevent this, but you can easily combine them:

  • Select the measures on both staves (even all at once) and use "Tools/Implode". The notes will be transferred to the upper staff. The lower staff will remain and the notes will stay there so you can delete them later.
  • Implode transfers the notes from the lower staff to the upper staff as voice 2. To get everything in voice 1, simply use 'Implode' again, but only select the upper staff. This works only for chord notes which have the same duration otherwise voice 2 is needed.

I'm not sure if the reason for this is not the midi file itself.
I only have very few midi files on my PC. With those I can't observe any splitting of the staves in the way you describe.
However, I use MuS 3.6.2.
If the copyright allows it, could you perhaps attach your midi file?
