Has MU4 always had this note input behavior?

I just Downloaded 4.2. After awhile I opened a test score and selected a D4 note. Then I cleared the selection by clicking on a blank space in the score. The selected note turned back to black. I went to hit the shortcut F7. As sone as I hit the F, the program went into note input mode, the previously selected (but cleared) D4 changed to an F4. This happens with any of the keyboard note input keys. I don't remember 4.1 doing this. But I don't use shot cuts much.
