compatability with Yamaha midi

• Jul 15, 2024 - 11:31

I have been using MuseScore 3 extensively for several years and would like to update to 4 but I find it is not useable enough on my system. It completely fails to recognise my Yamaha S910 for midi playback even though it accepts the input.

Also, there is no backwards compatibility with earlier versions so the rest of my music group would not be able to play the files that I write.

Are there any plans to make these two desires available? I know that the xml files will transfer but a native format would be far more sensible.

MuseScore 3.7 Evolution can open MS4 scores directly, which is WAY better than attempting a MusicXML export/import. And after you open a MuseScore 4 score in 3.7 and Save, you can open that score in 3.7 or 3.6. Said differently, MS3.7 and MS3.6 share the same file format. So it's your choice whether to work in 3.7 or 3.6. You'll just need 3.7 to open MS4 scores.

Additionally MS3.7 is far more bug free than 3.6. Only real problem for me is that—on MacOS— the most recent versions of 3.7 don't see any of my audio devices. So I'm stuck on OS: macOS 10.16, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.7.0.4524440406, revision: f3d36a3
Apparently this is not an issue on other platforms.
