lost score
Yesterday, I edited a score and thought I had saved it; but as I was saving it, MuseScore crashed, and when I looked for the score, it had vanished. Is there any way of retrieving it?

What do you have to do when the .autosave file doesn't open but exists?

Immediately copy it to a new file, so it isn’t accidentally erased my musescore.
Rename the copy without the .autosave ending, and best to change the front part to have a different name than the original.
Open the copy in musescore.

I think the score is there, with the name ending in .mscz: But it can't be read. The message is headed "Load Error", and there's a red circle with a big X inside it.

Which OS are you using?
There are some hidden files and directories.
Don’t start musescore. Search for a file called “new_project.mscz”. It’s probably already deleted but seems to contain a backup. In Linux, it’s in the ~/.local/share/MuseScore/MuseScore4 directory. There is also the hidden .mscbackup directory holding prior saved files. It’s in the ~/Documents/MuseScore4/Scores directory.

in linux, when a file was never saved, the new_project.mscz is under ~/.local/share/MuseScore/MuseScore4/

My operating system is Windows 10. The now-unreadable score was made in MuseScore 3.

It’s a good idea to look for backups first. You can also post your score, as often those who can analyze them can help. Sometimes not but it’s worth a try.
