Update to v4.4.0 issue

• Aug 31, 2024 - 19:16

Updated from 4.3.2 to 4.4.0 and noticed all the instruments in my song were changed to their default settings making it sound horrible.

I went back to v4.3.2 and now Musescore won't open at all. Tried Windows system restore to when it was before updating to 4.4.0, but it still won't open.

How can I fix this?
Thanks.

Could you be more specific about what you mean by "won't open"?

Some users are seeing only a blank screen, is that also what you experience? We are about to release a fix for that problem. You can already test this fix; maybe it fixes your problem too. To test it:
1. Go to https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/actions/runs/10700624763
2. Make sure you are logged in with a GitHub account
3. Download MU4_242481121_Win_4.4.1
4. Run this test build following these instructions: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/wiki/Downloading-and-running-tes…

What I noticed is, the update to v4.4.0 removes Muse Hub, therefore removing all instruments.
At first, I didn't know that was the issue so I did a Windows Image backup restore to before I did the update and it fixed my issue.

Then, I installed the update again, and noticed it did the same thing and that's when I noticed the update actually uninstalls or breaks the current Muse Hub app. I had to reinstall Muse Hub for it to go back to normal.

As to the issue where it wasn't loading...I would get the splash screen, but the app would not open.
It's now working as before, just users need to be aware the update breaks or uninstalls Muse Hub.

This is confusing me a bit because it seems to be mixing two problems; 1. Muse Sounds / Muse Hub had apparently disappeared around the time that you updated to MuseScore 4.4.0; 2. MuseScore itself would not open at first, but now it does again. Is that right?

It is not really possible that updating to MuseScore 4.4 uninstalls Muse Hub. To better understand this problem, we'll need some log files. Could you do the following:
1. In MuseScore, click "Diagnostic" > "Save diagnostic files"
2. Select a location to save these files
3. Upload the resulting ZIP archive here.

Thanks in advance!

It could have been that the update caused for Muse Sounds to not load. The 2nd issue I had was, when I tried to go back and install the previous version 4.3.2, MouseScore would not load as I would only get the initial splash screen.

At this point, it doesn't matter since I figured out what the issue was. I had to reinstall Muse Sounds and now it's back to normal after reloading a Windows image restore I had.
