Change staff distance just for a single line
I have made a piece with two instruments (voice, guitar). In one measure there is a lot of stuff between the two staves, and I would like to move the staves apart -- but only for that one line. I could see only how to change the "staff distance" globally, under the Style menu, not locally. Is it possible?
Obviously a line (a "system" as I understand it, which is a funny name) is just an artifact and not an important logical concept. You could not have a direction to work on a line, as then when you altered something earlier on, and the line break changed, it would no longer mean anything. But you could set the staff distance for a measure and of course MuseScore would do this for the containing line. Maybe it exists. I'm using v 1.3. Will make the switch to 2.0 soon...

First of all bear in mind that MuseScore 2 is still in beta. There is not yet a stable release, so don't fully abandon 1.3 yet.
Please put the MuseScore 2 beta through its paces though, but make sure you report any problems initially to the Technology Preview forum, where you will be advised whether you should open it in the issue tracker or not.
Secondly - have you looked at the Spacer element in the Breaks and Spacer tool palette?
That should do exactly what you require - add space between staves for one particular system.

Thanks, ChurchOrganist! That worked.

I'm trying to do the same thing, and for some reason the spacer worked in one place on my score but not in another. There is a section where I've hidden the empty staves and it won't let me change the spacing there without changing the staff spacing for the entire piece.

Yes, in current versions of MuseScore, staff spacers don't work if the staff below is empty. This bug has been fixed for 2.0.

Oh, ok. That's good to know, thanks!
