import of Music XML, exported by Sibelius doesn't work

I am trying to import a score exported by Sibelius to Music XML. Yet on import, MS throws the error: "Bad format"

In Edit > Preferences > Import, both:
- Import layout
- and Import system and page breaks

are on.
I did the opposite, exported an Music XML from MS 4.4.3, and imported it - that worked fine.

Why isn't this working?
What else can I do, and how can I debug this error?

The attached is not in MusicXML format.

It is not just not a MusicXML file, it isn't even an xml file. It seems to be a binary sibelius file (.sib ?) renamed to .xml. That's certainly not the way to 'export' to MusiucXML...

I agree. I did not exported the file, so I requested it anew.

Meanwhile, I read that Sibelius has the option for compressed and uncompressed MusicXML. Which might explain the binary type of the file.

No, it doesn't here. it isn't a compresses MusicXML either, as then it'd be a ZIP archive in disguise (it's start with the 'magic' "PK"), which this definitely is not (it starts with a ' magic' of "Sibelius")

thanks for the feedback. I really have no clue how it was done.

For the sake learning, will let you know when I receive the the reply on how exactly this binary .xml was created.

I guess by just renaming a .sib to a .xml, at least that seems the most sensible explanation

Yes, Sibelius can export compressed or uncompressed files. MU4 can open both. I have Sibelius 7.5.1.

If your Sibelius file was created by an older version, post it here.
