Using the same Volta (repeat ending) multiple times.

• Dec 5, 2024 - 02:15

I have a piece in which the main verse and refrain section repeats 6 times, and I want the end of the refrain to slow down the final time. If I were doing this with a song that repeated once, I would merely set the normal ending of the refrain under the "Prima Volta" option, and set the slowed ending under the "Seconda Volta, open" option. However, because I am repeating the section 6 times I do not know how to do this properly. I have seen a repeat ending marked with, for example, 1-4 before, but in musescore there is only the option to mark it 1, 2, or 3. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Here is a short version that I think repeats correctly. Select the ending and go to properties to see how I did it. You have to adjust the repeat list and the text of the repeat. Also set the play count on the measure before the repeat bar line. Double check in the manual.

You have set the Play Count to the correct value but you have not set the Repeat List of the volta to "1,2,3,4,5". That is the only mistake ...

I added a second volta (not necessary) and I deleted measures 27 and 28 - they are identical to measures 23 and 24. It's a variation, but it sounds identical.
The volta text has no influence - it is only for the musicians.
