Body Percussion sounds all playing as woodblock

• Jan 6, 2025 - 20:17

I made a score in October/November 2024 using MuseScore 4.4.1 on Windows 10 Home that included claps and stomps, and all was well and good. This morning (Jan 2025) I tried to create a score that included finger snaps and they sounded like wood blocks. So I tried adding them as claps or stomps instead, which also all came in as wood block sounds. I restarted MuseScore, then restarted my computer, all with no effect. I finally upgraded MuseScore to 4.4.4 but this also did not help. In this score, all body percussion now sounds like wood blocks. I opened the old score from Oct/Nov, and the hand clap still sounds like hand clap BUT if I try to add any additional body percussion to it, they sound like wood blocks.

Interestingly, if I copy the handclap line or individual notes from the Oct/Nov score into today's score, they sound like handclaps, but if I try to add new notes to it, they sound like wood blocks.

Any ideas on what's going on here? I have tried inputting notes from my keyboard vs my MIDI keyboard, both are the same. Unsure how to fix this.

Additional notes:
I am not using any plugins
I do not have any additional sounds or soundfonts installed
All settings are MuseScore defaults, both in the Oct/Nov score and today's score

I tried searching the help forums but couldn't find anything quite like this.

Attached are the file in question using copy/pasted hand claps on the Finger Snap line (Thunder) and the file that was created in the fall with hand claps in the appropriate place (Seven Principles).

Thanks!

Hello, I could reproduce your problem in my laptop with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS ans MuseScore 4.4.4 and MuseScore 4.5. When I was lading your score "Thunder" , For your instrument "finger Snap" I hear a sound which is not Finger Snap but Hand clap. If I add a new instrument "Finger snap" the coming sound is Ok. i.e Finger Snap. I also try to add the others Body percussion instruments and all coming sounds were OK. I was inspecting the content of your Thunder.mscx file and my thunder_test.mscx and I could not see any differences between the description of both "Finger Snap" instruments. Of course I am not an internal specialist. In fact it seems to be a problem, but unfortunately I do know the reason.

I tried both pieces, the instruments sound fine on my machine. Perhaps change the body percussion instrument (finger snap or whatever) to a different instrument momentarily and then change it back.
