Musescore "Select" feature behaving oddly

• Mar 26, 2025 - 03:08

After the update to 4.4, the soundfonts were not playing back correctly. I explored this in a previous post and was expecting this to be fixed in 4.5, so I updated it, only for BOTH the soundfonts to remain the same as before and a new bug - whenever I right click on a note and try to select all the notes with the same pitch (select similar or something), it doesn't show up and instead deselects the entire tooltip. I can't edit articulations, dynamic markings, and of course, all the different note pitches in a section of the score that AT LEAST I could have done in 4.4. It's very annoying because I write for twenty-part orchestras, and it takes a long time to go through and edit features of a symphony movement. I'm forced to stick to chamber works and solo piano for the time being and my symphony Op. 282 is due at the end of this month!! If anyone is experiencing this bug and have solutions to fixing it, please comment down below.

I am considering to never update Musescore again unless I am certain that these problems are FIXED and that NEW PROBLEMS DON'T SHOW UP.

In addition to the advice in your previous thread, try this. Add a Staff text and set it to Classical phrasing. or try some of the other settings.
Also don't select Similar. Select More and then everything you need to define what you want. If you want to select all the A4's in the flute part, select one and in More, select Same pitch and same staff. At least to begin with.

Every single update of every single piece of software fixes a bunch of bugs, but occasionally new ones show up = that's just the nature of software development. Not updating just means, you have more bugs than if you updated. Updating means you have fewer, but they might be different ones. Again, every piece of software ever.

Anyhow, in order to check on the status of the bugs you are concerned about, please post a link to the GitHub issue where the bug was reported. Assuming it has all the necessary details needed for someone to reproduce the problem, then someone can begin working on it and may have already, depending on when the issue was opened.

I am aware of one issue involving the Select / More dialog, where if you have a range selected, the dialog works off the first note of the selection instead of the note you right-clicked. So the workaround would be, create your selection starting on the note in question.

I have no idea what you mean about not being able to edit articulations or dynamics, though. Also no idea which soundfonts you are having problems with or what kind of problems those might be.
