Nightly Crashes on Start Up
I'm trying to run the latest nightly on my Windows XP work computer, but every time I start it up, I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library errror message that says "Runtime error! This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information" and the program quits
I did a Google search for the phrase in quotes above, and it led me to a page on the Microsoft website with a hotfix for my problem. I tried applying it, but it said that my system files were newer than the hotfix, so it wasn't needed. Any idea what the problem could be and how to fix it?

Have you done a factory reset (mscore.exe -F) to clear out the old MuseScore user workspace? If you've ever run a nightly before, then your user account has some old MuseScore data and that can cause issues with later nightlies.

I've not done a factory reset, and I'm not sure how to do that. Where does the "mscore.exe -F" go?

You have to find the MuseScore BIN folder for the nightly, shift-rightclick on the BIN folder and select "Open Command window here" (might be different under XP), then type
mscore.exe -F
in the command window.

Alternatively, you could navigate to the folder in the Nightly called Special; there's a batch file in it called revertToFactorySettings.bat. Just double-click on it to run it.

Good to know. I am not familiar with that folder or it's contents since I build my own nightly.

I couldn't find the "Open Command window here" command under XP, but I did find the revertToFactorySettings.bat file in the Special folder. I had to run it a couple of times before I could get the nightly to open, but it finally worked, and the nightly seems to run smoothly.
Thanks for all the help!

I recall a few issues have been reported under XP so certainly report anything awry.

XP doesn't have this by default, check http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/xp-downloads#2TC=powertoys
