Slur behavior at line breaks
I try to create a slur between a note and a rest for "implied" sustain of the note. I succeed whenever the note is not at the end of a line (measures 2, 6, 9 in the attached file). I fail whenever there is a line break (measure 13 to 14). How do I manage this task? Shift+left or right does not seem to help in this case.
I am using MuseScore 0.9.5, revision 2012 on Windows XP, service pack 3.
Many thanks for MuseScore!

Hi.
I don't understand the need for a slur here. Could you not just make the duration of the note long enough to be held the proper amount of time?
Or is there something I'm missing?
Best regards.

Hi. The idea of this notation is to let the tone sustain as long as possible. There has been already a posting on this topic in November 2008 and an answer of David Bolton remarking that this is a fairly common notation for piano in combination with sustain pedal. Werner Schweer has recommended then to use the slur for this kind of notation. And here I am. Any idea? Would be fine.

Can you post a screen shot of this or refer me to some notation of this sort. I am not familiar with this and am interested.
Seasons Greetings.

Hi. I have posted a screenshot together with my request (see file test.png above). I have got in contact with this kind of notation while getting familiar with classical minimal music. There you can often observe this sort of "endless" sustained notes. But I am sure there are other music styles where it is used too.
Merry Christmas.

If you look at any percussion music for cymbal, or similar type instruments, you are likely to see it. For example a suspended cymbal with an unconnected tie means that you should "let it ring" without manually stopping it. The exact duration of the cymbal crash is undetermined and not really important.
You can double click on the second slur segment (on the new line) and extend it with shift + cursor right.

Hi, Werner. Thanks for answering. My intention is not to extend the slur. Then Shift+right would work. I just would like to have a slur as short as in measures 2, 6, or 9, not a binding slur from measure 13 to 14. Or, in other words: How can I delete the small part of the slur in measure 14 without losing the slur in measure 13? Many thanks for your help.

Right click on the second part of the slur -> set invisible?

Thanks for your support. I already tried this idea. First, it seemed to work but when the document was saved and re-opened the second part of the slur became visible again. Hmm, any further ideas out there?

In rev. 2506 the visible attribute of slur segments is saved.

Many thanks, Werner. That's really great!
