6 tuplets issues and crashes
I've been having many crashes and weird behaviors trying to put in sixtuplets. I have mac osx 10.5.8, using MuseScore 9.5.2. I am also a novice musician, using this software to elegantly recopy multi-page scores onto one single page.
On this newest score, in 3/4 times, I've tried numerous times to type in sixtuplets, resulting in weird behavior/crashes/or successes. Here are the various scenarios I encounter:
A
1. I type in a dotted half note.
2. Select it and type control-6. The dotted half-note turns into an eighth note followed by 5 rests
3. I switch to note entry mode and try to replace the rests with the eighth notes. Nothing happens. If I switch to quarter note, the rests can be replaced, obviously by quarter notes. Not very useful.
B
1. I type in a dotted half note.
2. Select it, go to menu->tuplets-> other. I type in "6" for actual notes and "6" for normal notes. The dotted half-note turns into an eighth note followed by 5 rests of an 1/8 note value
3. I am not yet in note entry mode and I select - or rather, I try to select an 1/8 note, and one of the rests changes in value.
4. I try to undo and the program crashes.
C
1. I go through steps 1 and 2 of B, above
2. I click far away from that measure (say, the title area)
3. I switch to note entry mode and successfully replace the 5 rests with 1/8 notes.
Like I said, I'm a very novice musician. Maybe there's something I'm missing?
Thanks for any help. I've looked through the forums and noticed that there has been issues with 6 tuplets.

Why do you want to use a tuplet for this? In a 3/4 bar you get 6 eighth notes without using tuplets.

Hi David,
Thanks for your response. There's no real reason, other than I just want to recopy the treble clef of this sheet music as it is. I realize that I can just put in 6 1/8 notes, but it would be nice if they could be connected. (I also realize that I may be using the wrong terminology.)
Most importantly, though, I just wanted to point out some crashes that happened consistently while trying to use the program.
Thanks

For instructions on connecting the eighth notes see beam .
The latest nightly builds do not crash but I filed a bug because they still act strangely: http://www.musescore.org/en/node/4009

I feel so silly! I really looked everywhere in the manual and thought I clicked on just about every option in the palette, but evidently I wasn't that rigorous.

laura
you are using the wrong terminology
what you want to make is a single unit of 6 eighth notes beamed
not a sextuplet
for more info on tuplets please check out:

I've been able to successfully make a sextuplet until I get to the part where I edit the rests that are created - I don't seem to do able to do this.
As a matter of fact I can't seem to figure out how to edit notes - I double click on them and see that I'm in the edit mode, but I'm unable to change the rests to something like an acoustic snare drum.
I know that editing notes will be key to using Musescore, but I have not been able to figure it out from the manual or forum searches.
I'm doing drum scores with Musescore on an up to date version of Windows XP.
Thanks!

They have to be on their own stave, then use the Drums palette.

Note entry and editing for percussion staves works a little differently from other instruments. See Drum notation in the handbook for details.

I have figured out drum note entry. What I cannot figure out is how to edit notes. The link you included does not address this. I can double click on a note to get into the edit mode, but cannot figure out how to get a note in the drum palette to modify the rests created after making a tuplet.

In MuseScore you replace existing rests with notes (see the opening section of note entry ). If this isn't working for you then it may be a bug related to the tuplet. Are you able to add notes outside of tuplet?
If it is a bug then you might want to attach the score or test your file with a nightly build . There are quite a number of tuplet related fixes in the latest development builds.

Perhaps the problem is an unwanted rest duration(s). The durations of rests can be altered by selecting the rest and clicking on the wanted duration on the tool bar.

No, the rest durations are fine, I just don't see a way to replace them with the equivalent duration snare drum note.

I've been able to add notes, I just can't seem to change the rests in this 16th note sextuplet to snare drum. I'm using version 0.9.5 revision 2012. I'll try to attach the score to this message.
Thanks for the help!

The tuplet works as expected using the latest nightly build . However there is another problem with the score. After the second measure there is a tiny measure that has no notes or rests. This corrupt measure causes some odd behavior (it crashes if you double click inside of it). I recommend starting this score over using the latest nightly build. I say this only because you are encountering significant problems with 0.9.5 that are fixed in the development builds and we are coming near to a new release so the current nighties are pretty stable. Please keep in mind that scores saving in the prerelease or nightly builds will not open correctly in older versions of MuseScore. Let us know if you encounter any other problems.
EDIT: Actually I would wait till tonight's nightly build (due in a couple hours). I forgot about a delete selection bug

able to do this by selecting each rest and placing the snare drum. However the snare note placed was a quarter duration. I then selected the note and changed the duration to a 16th, etc. etc.,.
However, after I saved it and tried to close it, MS crashed. I did place the first snare note by double-clicking so that may be a part of the crash problem.
Regards.
Thanks. I suspected as much. It's been a gazillion years since I've taken any solfege class...
