I have found with the nightly builds that if you add any template files to the sub directory manually in bulk, when you start the program the sound doesn't work.
I then found that if you go to the preferences main screen and click reset all preferences to default, close the program and restart sound is corrected. Then I go into preferences and again change all the setting to my needs at start up.
Don't know where 'Add' -> 'Synthesizer' is, but I did check prefs for where it is looking for the Soundfonts folder (the path). I then checked that location and it's...empty. Then I looked at my 2.0 Soundfonts folder and it's ... empty. So, do the soundfonts not get installed when you install the program??
View -> Synthesizer confirms that there are no Soundfonts installed, and hitting the Add button doesn't help since, well, there are no Soundfonts to find.
So, aren't there default Soundfonts installed with Musescore? Because if there are, they did not install for me on either the stable 2.0 beta or the nightly build.
These soundfonts files use .sf3 extension: Perhaps did they hide elsewhere ?
Under Mint17, and compiling Musescore nightly, I have 2 soundfonts in /usr/local/share/musescore-2.0/sound
It seems that these files come when compiling/installing since one of them is identical to /home/leleu/musescore/MuseScore/share/sound/FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3 a file downloaded from git
Soundfonts are definitely install with the beta & nightly builds for Windows & Mac. There was no beta build for Linux, but at the time, I believe the nightly builds were just of the executable itself; you needed to install the rest of the program (including soundfonts, templates, chord symbol definitions, etc) yourself by doing a build from source. Not sure of the current status, but I bet Robert is :-)
While the beta & nightly buidls for Mac and Windows include the soundfonts, if you have bad settings for the soundfont folder in Edit / Preferences, you can prevent MuseScore from finding it's own soundfonts. So if you've messed with those settings - or messed with the installation in any way - that could be the problem. When in doubt, reinstall then immediately run mscore -F to reset your preferences to factory defaults.
Before I go reset to Factory Defaults, I have never changed any of the paths, and the paths seem correct. I have an image of my paths from preferences below.
Question: For OS X, does MuseScore install its support files in the Documents folder? In my installation under Documents I have:
Now, these are ALL empty folders, so I am guessing they were put there in order to allow the user to customize their installation and put it in a place that would not wipe out the settings on a reinstall (although this seems to not be consistent with other OS X applications). And without my changing the paths in Preferences, this is where it points on install (see first image).
I then dropped into Terminal and ran "open MuseScoreNightly.app -F", which launched MuseScore and resulted in the exact same paths in Preferences (see second image).
So...
I ran Fix Permissions in Disk Utility just because that can sometimes mess stuff up (it's a reach), and relaunched MuseScoreNightly -F and no change (see third image).
QUESTION: Where is the path supposed to point on an OS X install (i.e., where are the files supposed to be located)?
The folders under documents are for your personal files - including your personal soundfonts, templates, and styles as well as scores. The files installed with MuseScore are in the "package" or "bundle", I believe it is called on Mac. Something like that. See http://www.mactipsandtricks.com/articles/Wiley_HT_appBundles.lasso
BTW, notice for soundfonts it is not just a single folder listed in Preferences - both the system and your personal folders are listed.
Now, NB r255eaaa was I think the first nightly build I installed. Dropping into terminal, sure enough /Volumes/MuseScoreNightly-r255eaaa is there - but it's empty. But this is also a problem since this is an install volume...not the app location.
SO... the installed version of NightlyBuild HAS the Soundfonts in it's bundle, but for some reason prefs is pointing to the directory of the install disk (hmm).
Rebooted the computer (dropping the old install volume since I could not unmount from Terminal), relaunched the app with -F via “open MuseScoreNightly.app -F”, and still pointing to wrong place in Prefs. I pressed the “Reset All Preferences to Default” and voila the path was changed to /Applications/MuseScoreNightly.app/Contents/Resources/sound, which is what it should be. And all was right with the world again.
Lesson: It does not appear to me anyway that on installation and/or restarting with -F fixed the path problem, only hitting the “Reset All Preferences to Default” button worked. I hope I don’t have to do this with each install...
i have installed the version musescore nightly build -f1b0364 for version 2.1.0
on OS X Yosemite version 10.10.3
I have also try to install also previous versions before and follow the instructions as mentioned in https://musescore.org/en/node/35956
no succes.
in terminal i find the following output

Which audio driver do you use? (You can find it at Preferences -> I/O tab.)
Can you try in a nightly build?
Okay, i try the latest NightyBuild in the Sound Output seemed to be okay!
Great!
:)
No sound output in this build for me.
Mac OS X 10.10.1, NB 3d89d77
Core Audio and Built-in Output selected on the I/O tab. Was working before.
Hi
Are there any soundfonts loaded in 'Add'>'Synthesizer'?
I have found with the nightly builds that if you add any template files to the sub directory manually in bulk, when you start the program the sound doesn't work.

Seems to fix the problem from there.

Sorry: 'View'>'Synthesizer'. (I think I got confused with the 1.3 labelling.)

Ah, the plot thickens...
I did not realize the path contained both the system and user paths for the location of the resources.
The system path says:
/Volumes/MuseScoreNightly-r255eaaa/MuseScoreNightly.app/Contents/Resources/sound
Now, NB r255eaaa was I think the first nightly build I installed. Dropping into terminal, sure enough /Volumes/MuseScoreNightly-r255eaaa is there - but it's empty. But this is also a problem since this is an install volume...not the app location.
Show Package Contents yields: Contents -> Resources -> Sound -> FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3, FluidR3Mono_License.md
