Translation of content
Just a thought...
Wouldn't it be nice if we could translate the content published under "NEWS" on the main website. I haven't found a way to do this. It would be practical if these articles were visible under "Translator assignments".

For the time being, I translate the news item in french and post them in the french forum. Then the admin put them in frontpage. If you do the same for your language I'm pretty sure he will do the same.

Well, that's not a good solution. I can't believe that it's very hard to make the necessary changes that will place the translated content on the main page. If not noted by now; THIS IS A FEATURE REQUEST! :-)

Hi Dag,
Forum posts are not managed by the translation system, so they are unfortunately not handled in the same way as menu or book pages.
Every forum post can be promoted to the front page. Just post a forum topic or drop me an email via the contact form with the request.
There is always a choice between solving a feature by manual intervention or writing a software solution to it. We'll go for the manual solution for now.

I see. Hopefully more of the translators will demand a solution, and maybe someone then see it worthwhile to fix :-)
Thanks for the clarification.

daghenningsorbo,
Part of the issue is distinguishing between pages with lasting value and pages of only short term value. For example a person starting a translation of a new language has no need to translate news items from years ago. The handbook pages, main menu pages, and the very latest news are much more important.
In the past we have had some news items show up in the translation assignments, but it meant that translators were doing more work than needed. If I remember correctly, at least one translator expressed frustration with translating an item that they realized afterward had little value.
You mention "I can't believe that it's very hard to make the necessary changes that will place the translated content on the main page." Just to be clear: translated content can show on the main page as is regularly done for French, Dutch, and a few other languages. All you need to do is post the translation on the forum for your language then send a message to thomas_ .
To better address your frustrations, could you explain the difficulties you encounter with the current situation?

Hehe, my frustrations are not as serious as you might think. I just thought it would be wise to automate a procedure that now need human interaction. But I really get you points in the previous post, so I have no huge problems with the situation as it is.
Thank you for your long and (again) clarifying answer.
