Grace notes in LH part - data problems

• Jun 29, 2010 - 12:57

I've noted some odd behaviour with grace notes in the Left hand part of a keyboard part; These affect sound playback, copy and paste and sometimes beaming and spacing when reloading a file.

So:

When this is played back, the 2nd and 3rd grace notes in the Left hand are played after the second chord in bar 1. Those in the RH in bar 2 are played in the expected order.

While both sets of grace notes were entered in the same way (the grace note repeatedly dragged to the top note of the associated chord from the palette), those in the LH stave are not stored in the right order.

When bar 1 LH is copied and pasted, this order is reflected in the notation :

However, saving and reloading the original 2 bars does preserve the entered position of the notes.

Sometimes, the last grace note in a group in the LH stave is un-beamed after saving and reloading - and cannot be reattached:

ianw37, Thanks for the report but I'm not able to reproduce the behavior you describe. Could you give the exact steps starting from a new score?

What version of MuseScore are you using? What operating system?

For this example, I opened a single line piccolo score I'd created to test odd grace-note behaviour (which i couldn't reproduce on a single line - it's only in the second stave of a linked pair).

I added the keyboard Instrument and deleted the piccolo.

I then added the minims using the computer keyboard. I then copied these to the second bar.

I then did the bar 1 LH grace notes by opening the grace notes palette and dragging the unslashed quaver grace note to the top note head of the chord in the LH 3 times (this creates 3 C grace notes). I then changed their pitches to those i wanted by dragging with the mouse and added the second note to the third grace note by selecting the Bb and pressing shift+E.

I used the same procedure for the RH grace notes in bar 2.

I've just followed my own instructions - and exactly the same behaviour occurs (i didn't bother with the RH grace notes). I'm attaching the file in case it helps.

Hi David,

I closed my eyes, but still get the following sequence of audio: -

First chord, Second chord, 3 grace notes - first chord of bar 2

I moved the pitches of the grace notes round a bit to make it easier to hear - but that is definitely the playback sequence...
