How to affect a song with acceleration, ritard, etc
Is there a special technique to adding text to vary the speed of a song? I have tried and it has not affected it in anyway, although I have listened to songs on here affected by the addition of these words.
If anyone can offer advice, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

With MuseScore 2.0.0 and above you can use "TEMPO", from the left palettes menu (I'm not sure if it was possible with some early version).
You just "pick up" the rhythmic figure you want to use (it appears with an 80 as default tempo) and put it on the staff where you want to start with that speed.
Then you edit the tempo value manually.
I don't know if with last MuseScore version (2.0.2) it is possible to use acc. and rit. directly.
With 2.0.0 the only way to perform it is using a lot of "TEMPO" values along the piece, one per beat or more (there isn't a symbol to acc. and/or rit. into the main palette).
Don't worry about the ugly tempo values on the score. You can select all (or some) and put it as "Invisible" (Right "Inspector" Panel)

Hi Juan!
Thanks for your reply. I will probably do that for now. It will work, no doubt, just will take a bit of time doing :)

FWIW, I have found it really does not take a lot of tempo changes to *sound* gradual, so don't feel you need to go crazy and add one for every note.

Yes, I found that out as well :) Thanks for the tip.
You can use System text like rit., acc. and a tempo, they won't affect playback though, for that on top you'd add tempo texts to several notes in a row at decreasing or increasing speeds or fermatas (and weak their speed in inspector) and mark them invisible
