Instrument name editing

• Jul 21, 2015 - 16:31

In V1.3 there was great functionality in editing the name of an instrument through Staff Properties. Now in V2.0.2 nothing "sticks" when changes are made through Staff Properties, Edit Element, or by simply clicking on the instrument name. They all allow changes to be made but when the cursor is moved away and clicked on something else the default name reappears. I've read previous posts on this subject and the solutions there don't seem to work for me. Is there a way to save the changes that I'm not seeing or is this just a bug awaiting a fix.?

I am not aware of any issues editing instrument names; it works fine for me. Right click an instrument name or the staff itself, Staff Properties, edit the name(s), press OK, and the new name appears. Is this not work on some specific score, or are you doing something else? Can you post the specific score you are having problems with and precise steps to reproduce the problem?

I now get what I was doing wrong. I was making the change in the "Part Name" box of Staff Properties rather than in the "Long Instrument Name" box. Now the question is how to get a carriage return in the new name so that it appears on 2 lines. For example, I want the name of the instrument to be "1st & 2nd Boy Sopranos". To make it not appear so long and take up so much space, I'd like "1st & 2nd" on the top line and "Boy Sopranos" on the 2nd line. Is this possible?

In MuseScore 2.0.2, as in earlier versions, you CANNOT edit an instrument name as you would regular text; you must use Staff Properties. There is a bug currently which accidentally half-enables edit mode for an instrument name if it has been repositioned, but the bug is not that changes made that way don't stick, it's that entering edit mode is allowed in the first place (though that might be a nice feature for the future…). Use Staff Properties and you should have no problems.

EDIT: Here's the bug: #57396: Moving Instrument Name text enables edit mode, but changes do not apply upon exiting edit mode
