Can I import Midi files
I have some midi files that I would like to create scores from but I cannot find an import midi menu. Does Musescore support importing midi files?

Welcome on board.
launch MuseScore, drag your files onto the main window. Or right-click on it and select Open with
MuseScore.exe
Take a look at the manual: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/midi-import

Thank you. I was busy looking for "Import" somewhere - I didn't think "open with" would do it. I don't get much time online at the moment so I don't get to read the manual much. Thank you for your help.

Hint: download the fine manual as PDF for offline use ;)
Or just open the file normally - File / Open.

Thank you Marc.
I'm on a later 2009 iMac running El Capitan. Musescore 2.0.0 immediately crashes if I try to open a .mid file that was created using Protools. It doesn't matter if I use Open or if I drag a .mid file onto the screen. Any tips? I notice that there is a version 2.0.3 which I am about to download...

Try with the latest version of MuseScore, and if it still happens, please attach the MIDI file in question here.

Thanks, Isaac. Apparently, rev 2.0.0 was an "unstable beta" version. Moving to 2.0.3 fixed my problem.
BTW, I imported the file and spent a few hours cleaning up the mess. I'll try a few other MIDI files at some point and see if I can figure out how to import better. But sheesh! A 13/4 measure had four quarter notes, a dotted half note, four more quarter notes, and a half note all tied together because they are all the same pitch. That mess must have something to do with how the notes were entered into Protools... I guess.

well, 2.0.0 surely wasn't mean to be an unstable beta, but surely had bugs, as does 2.0.3 and any other version of any software more complex than a plain 'Hello World" program.
