When transposing a trombone quartet to a string quartet getting red notes

I am trying to transpose a trombone quartet piece of music to a string quartet and have manually changed the voicing on each of the trombone parts. Now there are RED notes and I assume that they are our of the violin's voice range. How do I change them? Move them up an octive and use trial and error?
