Text issues with Ossias

• Nov 4, 2015 - 16:03

Nightly d45cc19 / Win 7.

See attached score.

1. A 2-measure ossia has been created on bars 38-9.
2. Tempo text and volta text, which were both attached to the full-sized staff have both been unexpectedly reduced throughout the score. Is this a bug?
3. On solo guitar scores you don't want the staff name to show. But the only way to stop names showing in this case (and prevent an indent on staff 1) is to delete both names. Is this OK?

Note: According to Handy's "Essential Dictionary of Music Notation," Ossias don't need to be introduced with a clef, key signature. e.g.

Tempo text is always treated as attached to the topmost staff, regardless of which staff you originally attach it to. When staves are hidden - whether because they are marked invisible or because of hide empty staves or the new cutaway feature - the tempo text should act as though it is attached to the top *visible* staff and thus always appear even when the top staff is hidden, and this is happening. However the *size* appears to be taken relative to the staff it is *actually* attached to (the true top staff, even if invisible), not the top visible staff.

I might consider this a bug, but it is worth discussing / thinking through all the different possibilities to understand what expected behavior should be. Eg, if the top staff is small, should tempo amrkings really be small? Seems this was changed recently in response to a user request and I had reservations about it at the time. Or maybe a change was discussed and rejected? Seems to be if we size tempo text according to the size of the top visible staff, then tempo texts might be different sizes in different places throughout the score if "hide empty staves" or cutaway staves are used.

Anyhow, currently, it seems you can work around this by adding another full size invisible staff above the cutaway staff.

As I subsequently found out, you can stop this resizing of tempo (staff, volta etc.) text by unchecking "Size follows stave space setting" in "Style > Text > Staff."

Needed to press "reset to style" in "line properties" to correct the volta text. But, for some reason, the line stays at its reduced size. But deleting and reapplying the voltas fixed this problem as well.
