How to delete notes in a chord so only the root note remains
Is there a quick and easy way of deleting notes from a chord leaving only the root note, or will it have to be done all manually, one note at a time?

I would do it this way: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/replace-pitches-without-changing-rhyt…
MuseScore cannot know which note of a chord is the root; that would require knowledge of music theory and in many cases subejctive drterminations even two human musicians might disagree about.
But if you just want to the keep the *bottom* note regardless of whetehr it is the root or not, you could play with the Explode feature (see Handbook under Tools for more info).
