Default positioning of voltas (endings)

When adding a volta, it appears it has to be positioned manually. This seems a very strange thing to have to do; it would be like if every time I added a key signature I had to manually position each sharp or flat in it. Is there no way to set default volta positioning? If not, consider this a feature request (and I'm happy to repost there if necessary),
