The second thing Tantacrul immediately zooms in on in his MuseScore UI review (see https://youtu.be/4hZxo96x48A?t=414), and returns to again later (https://youtu.be/4hZxo96x48A?t=683), is this:

This "pretty nasty" color combination is by no means required. MuseScore 2 was much easier on the eyes in this respect, as this comparison shows.
