Notation

Hello all. New here, and trying to get to grips with MuseScore.

I'm trying to create a piano score and I have a 4/4 bar with a couple of brieve notes held underneath a run of quavers. I am unable to enter this specific combination as the software automatically changes the brieves into quavers.

What am I doing wrong, please?
