How do I make it so an instrument only plays the 2nd time in a repeat?
Title. I tried using a volta, but it seems to apply to all the instruments in the part.

It is currently not possible within MuseScore to only play something on a given repeat.
You can use the "unroll repeats" tool to create a linear score in which you can then silence/remove whatever you want to get the desired playback effect.

Edit, hmm, not quite...
Edit 2, maybe #268146: Add a way to specify "last time only" for repeats (skip first voltas)? Seems that is it, doesn't it?

Those are both about selecting the n-th time playback for playback of the entire score.
I went way back and dug up #72791: Add a "second time only" option (For repeats, not Volta) which seems more fitting for this request.
