xdg-utils
I have problems with xdg-utils, namely with its screensaver. It is not easy to switch off or disable. That is why I want it uninstall xdg-utils as I do not good for anything. I found now that it is required by Musescore.
Please remove it from installation packet. xdg-utils makes only problems.

How is that related to MuseScore?
xdg-utils is part of your Linux distribution, not part of MuseScore as far as I can tell

Still you'd rather need to go and tell that to the maintainer of the musescore package for your distrubution. These don't come from the MuseScore team here, only the AppImages do

They might be part of a Qt-dependency further down the line.
But indeed, none of that matters if you just use the official AppImage builds over community packages not provided by MuseScore.

Is there an app image for version Musescore 2.#?
My problem is that I cannot share new version of Musescore 3.# with older versions (other users), so I must stick to Musescore 2.# (Ubuntu) until the end of Ubuntu 18.4. LTS - long term support?
The problem with dependencies in Linux is that they become aggressively active even if you do not want them to. I do not mind libraries which are passive, but XDG is active problem maker... :-))
I guess the app image version 2.# would solve all these problems. I would put an alias for it and erase the repository version.

Yes, AppImages are available for 2.x too, see https://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/musescore/releases/MuseScore-2.3.2/ for example, for the lates 2.x one(s)

Great. I have it!
I did now:
sudo ln /home/appimages/MuseScore-2.3.2-x86_64.AppImage /usr/bin/musescore
and it works as before without xdg and rest of needless 200 MB stuff related to it!

Would your users be prepared to use the AppImage or upgrade to Ubuntu Studio 20.04 LTS?

Honestly, I do not know. There are I guess two years of time to stick to 18.04. LTS. There seems to be many changes to Ubuntu due to new QT technology and it will take a lot of time to make the new version a bit bugs free. So I think the longer we stick to old GTK the better. I have not so much time left to play with new inventions.
I am personally happier when it is from repository, so I need not to take care of it, but it sticks to Musescore 2 in 18.04., which is annoying. On the other side I have will have problems with xdg and other dependencies I will have to use app-image (less space taken and does not activate other programs).
This time between GTK and QT in Ubuntu is somehow unhappy, messy and chaotic. So we have to wait a bit. I am not a programmer.
