spacing

• Feb 2, 2021 - 13:57

hello,

I want my score to have spacing between the staffs the same, all throughout te piece. But I do not find how to do that. In the screenshot you can see how it differs between 2 pages. And then a screenshot of how I have set my Style.
I hope anyone can help me!

thank you

It's hard to give proper assistance from just a picture - the actual score would be more helpful.

In general, having literally the same staff spacing everywhere would lead to poor results - there would likely be items colliding with the staff above/below, also uneven margins if the number of staves per system doesn't stay the same, etc. So we instead try for a more professional look, with collisions avoided and margins equalized. but it is possible to default this, by using various options to allow collisions between staves and unequal margins. Again' we need your actual score to advise better.

The amount of extra space added to avoid collisions in this case is very small, so while I don't normally recommend this, the changes I'll suggest here shouldn't cause bad problems unless you add a lot more markings.

Two main things you need to do, both in Format / Style:

  • in the Score section, enter -999 (or any large negative number) for minimum vertical distance.
  • in the Page section, disable vertical justification (which I see you've already done)

The first setting is what tells MuseScore not to add space even if things collide. It's OK on this score as is, but if you change notes so that the slurs in measures 80-86 get any taller, you'll have problems, But it sounds like for your special purpose that's OK.

Note things still won't align from page to page on this score even though spacing is identical, because you've also set different odd & even page margins in Format / Page Settings. I'm assuming that's deliberate and part of the special art project you mentioned, but in case it isn't, that's actually the main reason things aren't aligning already.

hello,

Thank you very much: that did it! After exporting the score, I import its pages in InDesign, and so the page-to-page alignment will be fixed in InDesign.
I'm happy to understand more and more about MuseScore: a beautiful application.
Thanks again.
