No Playback or access to mixer or synthesiser
The play button and related buttons have gone light grey since the update and can not be used. I am also unable to view the mixer or synthesiser. Therefore I can not hear anything I write. This has only occurred since I did the most recent update. The app is now useless to me, and so I urgently need a solution!
Thanks.

I reported the same issue yesterday. I find it amazing that the responses to both your post and mine is to point to a FAQ that is basically worthless and does nothing to address the issue. I will tell you that the issue is also present in version 3.5 on Mac OS but only after the latest operating system update. It would be nice if the programmers who programmed this software would actually provide some support instead of pointing to an FAQ whose steps don't work in the latest updates.

That FAQ has helped literally hundrets of times. Not in a cases , but in quite a large percentage.
If the programmers were able to reproduce that issue, it had been fixed since long.

I've looked through the bug reports and posts in this forum enough to see that this seems to be a common issue. I went through the steps in the FAQ yesterday in an attempt to fix the same issue and posted the results. It did not fix the issue and so far there has been no inquiry to my post for further information. The FAQ's direction to update sound drivers doesn't apply to Mac since drivers don't get updated in the Mac OS independently. Since this problem seems to be present in at least two operating systems, the FAQ does not seem to be relevant.

It's "common" in that yes, there are maybe a few hundred reports of it a year - but keep in mind that is out of a few million downloads. So really, percentage-wise, it's not that common, and in any case, as mentioned, so far no one has been able to provide us with precise steps to reproduce the problem on our own systems. If someone who experiences the problem is ever able to figure out the trigger - what makes the problem occur on their system but not on other people's - then we can try to reproduce the problem and thus have a chance to fix it. until then, unfortunately, there is nothing any of us who can't reproduce the problem can do. We rely on help from those who can reproduce the problem to try to diagnose it.
Anyhow, as mention, the FAQ actually does help for very many people, so it is quite relevant, even if it doesn't solve the problem for all. Meanwhile, keep in mind MuseScore is open source, meaning it is developed largely by volunteers, and we rely on volunteers such as yourself or others affected by specific problems to help us diagnose problems when we can reproduce the problem ourselves. It's a community-based effort and generally works extremely well - or we wouldn't be in the position of having millions of download :-)
