Audio not working in Musescore 3
Hi,
I recently have had the issue that no audio devices show up in my preferences on musescore, and that I am unable to playback any scores. I have tried a number of different fixes but to no avail.

I've been dealing with the same problem and it still persists despite trying the suggestions provided. The audio engine restart doesn't appear to do anything.

What about all the other suggestions? What OS, and what audio devices do you have installed? Could be a conflict with something else. Recently it was discovered a FocusRite device caused a problem, for example.

No other suggestion works either. I am on Catalina for Macbook Pro. I don't have any interfaces installed, but I do have Ableton 10. I haven't really had issues between them before

Have tried everything here, nothing seems to work

What OS are you on, and what version of MuseScore? What audio device(s) do you have installed that you believe should be showing up? Be sure, BTW, that if you have a 64-bit build of MuseScire (the default for all OS's), you also have 64-bit audio drivers.

I'm on MacOS Catalina. I've tried both with an audio interface and through the headphone port/speakers of my macbook and no devices come up.

I have a focusrite scarlett solo so maybe that is the problem (as you previously mentioned)

If I remember, there should be an audio device section in Finder/ Preferences.

Yeah, it doesn't work with either device

Do you mean the Mac doesn't recognize either device? Or selecting either doesn't work in MuseScore?
Do you have ASIO listed in the API menu? Wait, I see that window is blank.
Focusrite has a help center. I'm going to look through my manual, also.

Sorry for the long response. Neither of the devices even show up in the drop down menu so it is impossible to select them

I'm talking about audio settings in your OS. Not in MusScore. Get MuseScore to work without any addon equipment. Then add the other stuff and make sure your Mac sees them in Finder/audio settings.

Yeah, everything works fine in the OS and in every other program. Just nothing shows up in the audio settings of musescore
I swear, I'm having the exact same issue except on windows, I have been doing everything as well with no progress what-so-ever.

Are you using external audio devices?

I am, but I can't even play the audio without sound. The audio playback is grey for me, and I am unable to click it. If I am using an external audio device, how can I get the sound to work on it?

In your taskbar, right click on the speaker icon. Select 'Sound". Then "playback. Whatever you are using should be the default device. If not, you can make it so.
With MuseScore open, Right click the speaker icon on the taskbar. This time select "Open volume mixer". You should see your default playback device and MuseScore listed.
But first,I would strip your system down to no external stuff and get MuseScore working that way. Then add tings back in.

Did you try the suggestions already given here? In particular, all of the ones from https://musescore.org/en/faq#faq-301733 that was mentioned in the very first response?

Yes, I believe I have done everything listed. I am fairly new to this stuff so I might be making mistakes

You definitely have not completed #8 :-)
I just realized I don't think it's on Musescore's side technically...I think it's just the newer versions of Mac OS. It's only on the newer versions that this has occurred and even older versions of Musescore (2 and earlier versions of 3) don't work at all on Catalina or Big Sur. I think I'll just wait until there is a compatible version before I continue. By the way, I do say it's on Apple primarily because it seems that the majority of programs on Macs (particularly media-related ones) got really screwed up with these last 2 OS updates

MuseScore 3.6.2 definitely works on Big Sur and Catalina.
