Lute tablature flags

• May 8, 2021 - 21:57

I'm writing lute tablature in MuseScore 3.6. I want to set the rhythm flags so that they don't repeat - in other words a new flag should appear only when a following note has a different duration. I'm setting this in Stave Properties > Advanced Style Properties > Note Values. When I do this it only seems to work for longer duration notes. Repeat flags appear on the shorter duration notes whatever the setting. Is this expected behaviour - or am I doing something incorrectly?

I seem to recall something similar, but a long time ago now, and fixed since. What version of MuseScore are you using ? (check in menu Help/About)
Start by updating, if you haven't done so. Works here, with the latest version 3.6.2 - image below.
If not, please attach your actual .mscz file (not a simple image) so we can check.

As an aside, how long is measure 5 of this prelude 2 supposed to be?
I count 5 beats in the upper voice? Prelude02.pdf

Hello cadiz1, thanks for your reply. I'm using MuseScore 3.6.2 so I must be doing something wrong. I'm using Archlute as the instrument, with the bourdons set as in the tuning diagram you will see at the end of the prelude, Tab 6-str French as the template, Renaissance fret marks and French Baroque flags. I've attached the MuseScore file.

As for the notation version you've found on my website, the notation in bar 5 is wrong in that the quaver C is in voice 2 and should be the other way up. I hadn't looked at these preludes for a number of years but I've come back to them in the last few days and will be posting updated versions fairly soon.

Would it be better this way? 2 Prelude02lute_0.mscz
This file is an XMLMusic import. It is known to require sometimes (depending how the beam information is encoded in the original file) a simple maneuver when you open it with MuseScore and to fix it somehow: select all (Ctrl (Cmd) + A), and in Beam Properties palette, click on "Auto". That's it.
