Thank you for your reply, you may be able to help with something else, I am trying to split the stave on a midi import, the handbook gives the following advice:
Split staff
This option is suited mainly for piano tracks - to assign notes to the left or right hand of the performer. It uses
constant pitch separation (the user may choose the pitch via sub-options) or floating pitch separation (depending on the hand width - sort of a guess from the program point of view).
Where are the sub-options to change the pitch separations?

Split Staff is not during import, it can be done after the fact; So if you don't wish to use the heuristic algorithm MuseScore uses during import, make sure to uncheck the split staff during import; then after import right-click a staff and choose "split staff" there to be able to set a split point.

Hi Jeetee,
Sorry to be a pain, but I will try and explain my situation a little clearer (I have included attachments).
I use Cubase to compose but the scoreing is not so good, that's where MuseScore comes in.
I converted a tune in Cubase to midi so that I could open it in MuseScore, the score appears as two staves, piano melody and piano accompianment when you load it, but in the mixer, it only appears as one channel.
So I thought I could split the stave in two but the chords of the accompianment get split and one note is combined with the melody (I hope that makes sense) please see the attachments.
Any advice you could give would be most helpful

So looking at those images, it looks as if the musescore1 image is pretty much an exact match with the Cubase tracks and now I'm unsure what your issue with that import was?
If you wanted to mute just one staff, then press the corresponding voice mute buttons for the instrument in the mixer: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/mixer#mute-voice
If you want it to be two instruments, add an additional Piano and copy-paste.
If you wish less clutter in the top staff due to the overlapping notes in Cubase (and thus in your MIDI file) you could always try exporting MusicXML from Cubase, which should be a tad better in maintaining notational information about your tracks.

Hi Jeetee,
I don't have an issue with the import.
I do have an issue with how it is displayed in the MuseScore mixer.
I am trying to get the piano melody and the piano accompaniment on two different chanels in the mixer from what I have imported.

You'll have to do so after the import process by going into Edit > Instruments.
