Missing instruments of imported .XML files
I have mscz files that contain imported musicXML files. They contain systems of three staves
of which the first stave is the voice, the second is the first stave with violon clef of a piano and the third stave is the bass stave of a piano.
The information that is in the musicXML file is apparently insufficient for Musescore in order to detect which instruments are really meant. The only information that Musescore has is that there are systems of three staves. I included a picture of the Instrument panel after a typical import of an .xml file. The parts panel also doesn't show anything, because MuseScore does not know which instruments are actually involved.
Now comes the difficult part. How to let MuseScore know which instruments are involved? I experimented with the obvious things. First the Staff/part properties, then the instruments panel and also the parts panel. My experiments failed and I do not currently have a clue about what to do.
The only solutions that I see now is exporting the imported files by Musescore in .xml and
then work on the .xml itself and then reimporting them. The second solution would be to create a brand new score in MuseScore with the right instruments and just copy my material in it. I find both of them a nuisance and I am sure there must be a fine and elegant solution for it.
I included an example of an imported file, ImportedFile.mscz and a picture of the instrument part of that imported file, PictureImportedFileInstrumentPanel.

Press i, add the Instruments, copy&paste
Normally MusicXML contain the necessary information and MsueScore interprets it correctly. Your particular MusicXML file must not contain this info, or has it encoded in some less-standard way we don't recognize. If you attach the MusicXML file itsle,f we can investigate further to see if there is some way to retrieve that information.
As for how to set an instrument after the fact, right-click the staff, Staff/Part Properties, Change Instrument.

If I change the second line (the violon clef) in a piano (keyboard), then the third line (the bass clef) is not readily seen as the bass line of the piano. You have to set the third line also as a piano. That is the difficulty that I experience. You should be able to choose which two staves constitute that one and only piano.

Again, if you attach your MusicXML file, we can assist further. If it wasn't setup correctly by whatever program created it, then you may indeed need to use copy/paste to correct that error, but even so, that works fine. No need for creating a new score, just copy the content from one instrument to the second staff of another within the same score.
