fingering
I am trying to add fingering to some lute tablature. In the handbook it says:
Add fingering to a single note
Use any of the following methods:
Select a note and click one of the fingering symbols in a Palette (double-click in versions prior to 3.4).
Drag and drop a fingering symbol from a palette onto a note
However, I don't see a palatte for numbers.

MuseScore has a Fingerings Palette. (I can't remember, it may be "hidden" on a new install. You can add palettes with the Add palettes button at the top of the Palettes tab.)
The first numbers are Piano fingerings, which are positioned above the note to which they are added.
After pimac you see the Guitar fingerings which are positioned to the left of the note.

Okay, I found that there is a seperate pallete for fingering and it is not within the text pallet. However, I cannot get the number to 'stick' to the note. I select the note, then double click the number and nothing happens. If I drag the number to the note, when I let go it springs back.
I made a screen capture movie, but it won't upload because of the file format.

To enable the display of fingering in tablature, right-click on the TAB, and select Staff/Part Properties...→Advanced Style Properties; then check the box labelled "Show fingering in tablature".

"I select the note, then double click the number "
For the record, simple click the number is enough (since version 3.4)

I would have never figured this out.
Thank you!

I would have never figured this out.
Indeed! Which is why the handbook exists.
(My reply above was copy/pasted from it... ;-)
The handbook (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/fingering) also says:
