The extension installs an sf3 file. I have seen references to a Linux version that is an uncompressed sf2 that might have better sound quality. Of course better is in the ear of the one who hears it. I don't care about larger file size.
Yes, that link does discuss the General HQ. However, as I said previously, the soundfont they provide for download is identical to the sf2 from the official MuseScore downloads page. Logically, that means that the official sf2 is also the HQ font. I don't see why it wouldn't be, since the whole point of the sf2 is that it is uncompressed, so unless someone converted the lossy Vorbis samples from the original MuseScore General (non-HQ) font to WAV samples, it would be in the original full quality.
Consider this, then. If those files from the MuseScore download page are the HQ files, why aren't they labeled "HQ"? Simple. They aren't the HQ files. I have the sf3 versions of both the General font and the General_HQ font. The General font is 38MB. Similar to the down load page. The General_HQ font is 84 MB. The sf2 version of the General_HQ font would probably be near the installed size of the file listed in the link I posted. Over 400 MB.
So, because the link talks about the General_HQ font, my original question is this: Is there an sf2 version of the General_HQ font?
They are not. There's only one place to get the HQ soundfont and that is via the Resource Manager and its Extensions. And only the SF3 one. At least for Windows and Mac, and the Linux AppImage.
MuseScoreGeneral_HQ.sf2's size is 478945 KB, it is not generally/officially available.
I don't think it is officially available.
I'd like it to be though, mainly because it loads quicker or rather playback starts quicker after MuseScore’s start

The sf2 is here https://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/musescore/soundfont/MuseScore_General/MuseSc…, as stated in the Soundfonts download page: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/soundfonts-and-sfz-files#list. I don't notice a sound quality difference between the sf2 and sf3, though I still use the sf2 because the uncompressed samples load faster and I tend to have massive scores.

I can't tell if that is the same as what is here:

I extracted the sf2 from the .deb file, compared them with a hex editor, and they appear to be identical.

I see. But the link I posted talks about the General HQ font. The MuseScore download page is for the regular General font.

Thanks Jojo. That's my understanding about the load and start time, also.
