How to hide some bars but not others
Hi everyone! Merry Christmas :)
I have a piece for kids that starts in unison and so I want to hide the soprano and alto lines at the beginning. They only sing unison at the beginning so I can choose to 'always' hide the unison bars when empty in the staff/part properties and that works great.
However, I don't want the soprano and alto parts to show up at the beginning and sit there empty while the unison voices sing. The voices don't split into parts until bar 21 so there are loads of empty bars. The 'auto' isn't hiding them. When I click on 'always', the antiphony between the sopranos and altos can't be seen as one and it's confusing. So, is there a way of hiding specific bar numbers in each part?
Many thanks!
Lorna

Then share the score
As mentioned, it's much easier to help if you attach your score. But as it is, I can guess that maybe you have three staves - one labeled unison, one labeled soprano, and another labeled alto, and you want all of them hidden when empty? If so, you shouldn't be messing with staff/part properties. Instead, reset the "hide when empty* back to the default "auto" for each staff, then go to Format / Style / Score and turn on "Hide empty staves" but turn off the option to not hide on the first system. This hides empty bars of all staves on all systems. Again, if you continue to have trouble, just attach your score so we can understand and assist better.
